What the course covers:
- Understanding the post — how consultant jobs are created, funded and approved; how to decode the advert, job description and person specification; how to research the trust before you apply.
- Building the application — your self-assessment and niche, the consultant CV and portfolio, the supporting statement, and how shortlisting panels actually score.
- Approaching the trust — planning the pre-application and pre-interview visits, who to meet, and how to read the signals you’re given.
- The national agenda — maternity safety after Ockenden, national maternity policy and the Maternity Incentive Scheme, clinical governance, workforce, and health inequalities.
- Wider consultant practice — digital health and data, NHS finance and commissioning, research, medicolegal regulation, leadership, and resilience in your first year in post.
- Interview performance — the interview day and its scoring domains, values-based interviewing, answer frameworks, the candidate presentation, presence on the day, and mock panels.
Who it’s for:
- Senior trainees approaching CCT
- Post-CCT fellows and locum consultants
- SAS and specialist grade doctors preparing for a consultant application
- International Medical Graduates who are new to the NHS appointment process
