- Understanding the post — how consultant jobs are created, funded and approved; decoding the advert, job description and person specification; researching the trust
- Building the application — self-assessment and niche, the consultant CV and portfolio, the supporting statement, and how shortlisting panels actually score
- Approaching the trust — planning the pre-application and pre-interview visit, who to meet, and reading the signals
- The national agenda — maternity safety after Ockenden, national maternity policy and the Maternity Incentive Scheme, clinical governance, workforce, and health inequalities
- Wider consultant practice — digital health and data, NHS finance and commissioning, research, medicolegal regulation, leadership, and resilience in the first year
- Interview performance — the interview day and its scoring domains, values-based interviewing, answer frameworks, the candidate presentation, presence, and mock panels
